Fat injections taken from one part of a patient's body and added to another area such as the face has been popular for many good reasons.  Although the percentage of the volume injected that remains varies from individual to individual, fat has the potential of filling and resculpting the face with often long lasting and natural results.  Lip augmentation, augmentation of the cheek hollows or cheekbones, and even conservative augmentation and smoothing of the chin and jawline can result.  Dr. Perlman has been injecting fat into selected areas of the face in conjunction with nearly all of his facelift surgeries in Beverly Hills for years.  Not only can facial contour be altered, but the quality of the overlying skin seems to noticeably improve.  This is theorized to be caused by the transfer of large numbers of the patient's own stem cells from their stomach area to the face.  At the same time the fat restores lost facial volume associated with aging.

Fat grafts are also sometimes used to improve facial asymmetries, augment the cheeks and lips and improve facial balance and contour in a more natural and less dramatic way than silicone cheek or chin implants.  Look at the examples below for some examples of fat grafts performed in our Beverly Hills plastic surgery office.
